The Gospels

Before I sort the gospel into readings, I am going to begin by dividing it into pericopes. [explain]

Where sections are subdivided, either the larger sections or the subdivisions can be treated as single readings. Subdivisions are are marked by an indentation. [Achieved with a white m-dash —]

The Gospel of Matthew

1.1–17  The purported genealogy of Jesus.
1.18–25  The annunciation to Joseph and the birth of Jesus.
2.1–23  The Wise Men and Herod.
2.1–12  The visit of the Wise Men.
2.13–15  The flight to Egypt.
2.16–18  Herod orders the slaughter of the children.
2.19–23  Joseph takes the family to Nazareth.
3.1–17  John the Baptist.
3.1–12  John prepares the way.

The Gospel of Mark
